What Happens When You Can’t Meet Your Business Goals?

Creating GPCT Goals

Level three: Understanding consequences. At level 3, you don’t just have goals. You also know what happens if you fail to achieve them.

What Happens When Your Goals Fail?

As you watch goal after goal fail, you may find yourself starting to wonder how important they really are. What will actually happen if you fail to achieve your goals? Try imagining it. Go ahead. Close your eyes and really think about where you’ll be if your goals fail. What will it mean to you? More importantly, what will it mean to your business? Now, imagine where you’ll be if you do manage to successfully achieve your goals. What’s the difference? In many cases, this simple exercise can help catapult you forward, giving you the incentive you need for success.

As a matter of priority, you might even consider that you shouldn’t waste your time on a goal without any consequences. If there’s no pain associated with a particular goal, you’re probably not focusing on the right objectives. To create the kind of momentum in your business that leads to a sustainable competitive advantage, you need to focus on the biggest priorities that will generate the greatest impact. Those goals don’t come cheap and missing them should hurt.
